Knowledge involves interpretation

Mary Miss, Perimeter/Pavilion/Decoys (1977-78).

'In more complex constructions, like Miss's Perimeter/Pavilions/Decoys, site was important in the sense of providing natural boundaries, such as trees and changes of level and site lines. This was an art connected with seeing the meaning and impact of human presence. It is concerned with feelings that correspond to personal and group situations like gathering, watching, seeing, being seen, refuge, enclosure, and escape.'
Andrew Causey, Sculpture Since 1945, Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1998, 190.

  1. Seeing that hole in the ground, reminds me of the sacred underground chamber of the Hopi, the Kiva. Who knows what rites might be enacted down there...
